Slick back: wearing hair backwards without automatically choosing a wet look

A slick back wears the top backwards. It can look tight and glossy or softer with a natural finish. Hair direction is the starting point; shine and firmness are separate choices.

Test whether the front stays back

Comb the front backwards during the discussion and notice where it falls forwards again. Short pieces or a strong growth direction may require more length or styling. Avoid removing the same length everywhere if the front needs more reach.

Decide how the sides connect

The top can blend into the sides or sit above a distinctly shorter area. A disconnected join creates a different silhouette, especially when the hair is not tightly arranged. Ask how the loose shape will look too.

At the back, hair does not have to collect in a heavy mass at the crown. Discuss where length is needed to move backwards and where bulk could be reduced.

Choose finish and hold separately

High shine does not automatically mean enough hold, and strong hold need not be glossy. Explain which qualities you want. Ask for a small amount to be demonstrated before using more at home.

If you want to comb the style again after wearing a helmet or cap, include that in the product discussion. A rigid finish can require a different routine from a movable one.
