Pompadour: a full front swept backwards
A pompadour emphasises a full, lifted front worn backwards. Its shape is generally more built up than a loose quiff. First decide whether you want that silhouette, the polished finish in your reference, or both.
Separate the cut from the photographic styling
A large front roll may be created with a dryer, brush and product. Ask how much shape your hair will hold without extensive preparation. Choosing a pompadour for minimal styling can disappoint if its built-up height is precisely what appeals to you.
Discuss the width beside the front
Should the sides sit close or retain some fullness beside the top? Shorter sides emphasise the front but are not mandatory. Check the balance from the front before copying a fade from the same reference.
Discuss retaining useful front length. Simply keeping it longer is not always enough: direction and weight also affect how it moves backwards.
Choose an achievable finish
Shine is a product choice, not a requirement of the cut. Explain whether you prefer a matte, natural or glossy finish. Ask how to wash out the product and rebuild the shape the next morning.
Include a side view in the final check. It reveals whether the highest point, curve and transition towards the crown match what you intended.
