Blow-drying for volume: direction before finish
A hairdryer can create volume by drying the roots in the desired direction. It is not a contest to dry as hot or as long as possible: the shape, your growth pattern and a calm technique determine the result.
Set the direction while hair is still damp
Start on towel-dried hair and move the front and crown with fingers or a brush in the direction you plan to wear them. If the base dries forward, product later has to correct it unnecessarily.
Work from the roots
Aim the air at the root where you want lift and keep the dryer moving. Let a section cool briefly after shaping it; only then decide whether it needs more support.
Use product as the finish
Only after drying should you decide whether you need a small amount of powder, clay or paste. Ask your barber which drying direction suits your crown and length, so the volume is repeatable at home.
